Day-1 New Delhi Departure
Before the Palace on Wheels whisks you away on a royal odyssey trailing through enchanting Rajasthan, you shall have a warm traditional Indian welcome. The hotel in which you will be accommodated in carries exclusive restaurants, where you will find variety of drinks stuffed lavishly in its bars. Order for your favourite drink and enjoy a chit-chat with the fellow travellers.
In your Palace on Wheels journey, the first stop you shall have is Jaipur. Located in the semi-desert lands of Rajasthan, Jaipur is one of the finest planned cities of India. Jaipur is reckoned as ‘Pink City’, since in 1876, this city was colored in terracotta pink at the behest of presiding authority for welcoming the arrival of Prince Albert.
Here you will alight and encased in an air conditioned coach, you’ll explore the city of Jaipur. First you’ll visit Hawa Mahal or Palace of Winds. Built of red and pink sandstone, it is a marvellous specimen with beautiful ornamentation and amazing architecture. You’ll be wondered on seeing the intricate latticework done on its 953 small windows (jharokhas). Next you will visit Jantar Mantar; a structure containing collection of architectural astronomical instruments. This is a solar observatory that embodies the brilliant astronomical skills and an intelligent acumen of cosmological concepts of ancient India.
Further you’ll visit Amber Fort; to reach that monument you’ll take an elephant ride. Thereafter you’ll enjoy your time going on shopping spree. Jaipur is famous for its ornate jewellery, handicraft items, intricately woven carpets, pottery pieces, textiles etc.
Lunch, you’ll relish at Amber fort, and later have a tour of Albert Hall. In the evening, you’ll enjoy the culturally rich folk performances at Jal Mahal or Water Palace. You will enjoy your dinner on-board.
Day-3 Swai Madhopur
Next stop of your enchanting royal journey is Swai Madhopur, which is famously known as Tiger City. You will relish delectable breakfast at Hotel Vinayak and then set off for a visit to the world of untamed ones, Ranthambhore National Park. View the diverse species of wildlife-fauna & avifauna. You will also visit the archaeological ruins of a 10th century fort here. After this visit, you’ll return to train and enjoy a delicious lunch.
You will have an exclusive tour to Jhoomar Baori; the place contains a huge hunting lodge of Jaipur’s erstwhile ruler Sawai Madho Singh. After that, you’ll be taken to visit Jogi Mahal, a forest guest house that provides chimerical overviews of Padam Talab.
After finishing off all these visits, Palace on Wheels will leave for Chittaurgarh. Enjoy the rural serene view as you pass by the countryside scenery.
Chittorgarh is the epitome of Rajput era and exhibits the Rajput eon’s main characteristic qualities- pride, romance and an earnest spirit. The city of Chittorgarh glows with the history of heroism and sacrifice that are detailed in tales and ballads sung by Rajasthan’s bards.
After taking lunch, you shall have a visit to splendid Chittorgarh Fort, an ancient citadel. Constructed by Mauryans, it is a 7th century AD structure that is located on a 180m hill. You’ll also visit Rana Kumbha Palace and Rani Padmini’s Palace and awe at the excellence of Rajputana architecture. Then you’ll gain some insights in Rajasthan’s culture by witnessing the exclusive light and sound show that are beautifully organized in Chittorgarh Fort.
Your dinner will be served to you at Panna hotel; there you will also enjoy mesmerizing cultural shows, vivacious folk music and delicious bar-be-que.
Further, Palace on Wheels will proceed on its journey to Udaipur.
By this morning, you’ll reach Udaipur. Adorned by august Rajput-era palaces, a rich history & culture and picturesque locations, Udaipur is reckoned by several names like ‘Lake City’, ‘Venice of the East’ and ‘The City of Romance’. You’ll have your breakfast at Shikar Bari; it is a tranquil verdant place with nature’s charms. You will enjoy a lavish lunch at Sun Set Point, which is an open air restaurant with fresh and fragrant breeze coming off Lake Pichola.
After lunch you’ll be taken to visit magnificent City Palace. Thereafter you’ll visit Crystal Gallery. In fact it is the balcony of Fateh Prakash Banquet Hall that is metamorphosed into an elegant museum of crystal glass furniture, crockery, chandeliers and varied other antiques. In the evening you’ll enjoy a quiet and romantic boat ride on the tranquil waters of Lake Pichola.
After enjoying dinner, the train will proceed on its journey to Jaisalmer.
Lying in the heart of the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer is an amber colored city, which is popularly known as ‘The Golden City’. Here you will visit the imperial havelis and mansions that have grand facades and intricately done latticework. Such wonderful architectural specimens include Nathmalji-ki-haveli, Patwon-ki-haveli and Salim Singh-ki-haveli.
Lunch shall be served to you at Hotel Moomal (first structure in Jaisalmer that is carved yellow sandstone). You will relish lip smacking traditional Rajasthani cuisines laid amidst the rural setting. Enjoy shopping at Rajasthali; it is the only Rajasthan Govt. Emporium for buying ornate jewellery, art and handicraft pieces. You will get to see here elegant pattu shawls, trinkets, curios, embroidered artefacts with mirror works etc. After lunch, you will enjoy the exciting camel ride as you ride the highs and lows on the Sam’s massive sand dunes.
As dusk descends upon the city, you will sip evening tea and take your dinner along with bar-be-que feast at Samdhani. Rich cultural folk dance and traditional music will add vibrancy to your dinner.
After dinner, train leaves for Jodhpur.
Day-6 Jodhpur Monday, Arrival 07:00 AM Departure 3:30 PM
This morning the train approaches Jodhpur. Set in the serene landscape of Thar desert, Jodhpur is a wonderful tourist destination that enshrines awe-inspiring palaces, forts and temples. Since it carries a pleasant sunny weather all throughout the year, it is so famously called ‘Sun City’.
First you’ll visit the gigantic Mehrangarh Fort and explore inside of its complex, museum and marvellous palaces. The grand palaces in its womb are Moti Mahal, Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal, Sileh Khana and Daulat Khana, all of which are sheer specimens of architectural excellence.
Further you’ll visit Umaid Bhawan Palace & Museum, Jaswant Thada. Then in the evening, indulge in shopping at Sardar Market. In this market, you’ll find breathtaking and art pieces, handicrafts, fabrics and ornate jewellery.
Dinner will be served to you on board.
This day the coach arrives at Bharatpur, a beautiful place of nature’s charm and serenity. Here you will visit the world famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park. Your breakfast will be served at the national park amidst the nature’s tranquillity. This sanctuary is the abode of nearly three hundred species of birds.
This day you will arrive at Agra. Here, you’ll visit Taj Mahal, the architectural wonder of Mughals in India. The majestic white marble monument reflects the excellence of ancient craftsmanship.
Here, lunch will be served to you at Palace Hotel. Agra is also famous for its bustling and buzzing bazaar (markets). So, in the evening you’ll visit some of these vivacious marketplaces. Allow yourself to go on shopping spree; you’ll find variety of art and craft pieces, richly embroidered clothes, ornate accessories etc. Thereafter you’ll enjoy the splendid Light & Sound show that is held in Taj Mahal. At night, Gala dinner will be served at Hotel Mughal Sheraton.
