Introduction

The Deccan Odyssey Train is a joint venture between Indian Railways & Tourism Ministry of Maharashtra with on board services being provided by Taj Group of Hotels. Everything on the train reflects the lifestyles of Indian Royalty. The name is derived from the route it follows, the Deccan Plateau, which has been under the rule of dynasties such as the Maharathas & Mughals.

This route, this journey, this experience – it provides a rich cultural view of the land and it’s jewels while you revel in the splendour of Deccan’s luxury train. The Air-Conditioned Train train comprises of 17 Passenger coaches , out of which 12 are sleeping cars,1 Conference Car, 2 Dinning Cars, 1 Bar Car & One Spa Car.

10 air-conditioned Deluxe saloons, each with combination of 4 twin bedded sleeping chamber cabins & 2 air-conditioned Presidential Suite saloons each with 2 suites with combination of living room & bed room. General Information

Pre & Post Hotel Accommodation
It is highly recommended that you take a minimum of one pre and post night accommodation with your rail journey for comfortable travel. We can provide bookings for top 5 star hotels in Bombay.

Personal Travel Insurance
We strongly recommend that you have adequate travel insurance cover from your country of domicile for injury, illness, death, accident, loss of effects or luggage and holiday cancellation. There is no concept of Tour Insurance in India.

Dress Code
There is no official dress code for Train Tour. We recommend casual cotton clothing and suitable walking shoes for off-train excursions during the day. You may opt to wear Semi Formal dress at restaurant and bar lounge.

Special Dietary Requirement
Kindly specify any special dietary requirements at the time of booking to avoid disappointment during your journey. Every effort will be made to accommodate all culinary requests; however, we are unable to provide meals requiring strict religious observance in the preparation.

Minimum Passenger Requirement
All our journeys require a minimum number of passengers to operate. Should this not be accomplished, we will offer you an alternate departure date or an alternate journey or a refund. In the unlikely eventuality of this occurring, 30 days advance intimation can be given.

Day 01: Mumbai (Wednesday)
Report by 330 p.m. at Chhatrapati Shivaji Rail Terminus, Mumbai, a world heritage site. After check-in formalities & tour brief, train departs by 430 p.m. from Mumbai. Wine and dine in the luxurious comforts of this train and whistle off on your royal voyage.

Day 02: Sindhudurg & Tarkali Beach (Thursday)
Morning.
After breakfast on board, arrive at the Kudal Railway tation. A luxury AC bus transfers you to Malvan Jetty from the station. Settle in a comfortable boat, arranged just for you, and enjoy the mesmerizing view of flora, birds and caressing waves on the ride to Sindhudurg Fort- a once upon a time naval base, stubbornly guarding the coast for hundreds of years built by the Great Marathan Warrior King Shivaji in 1664-67 AD. Within its premises are temples dedicated to Bhavani, Mahadeo, Jarimari, Mahapurush and Shivaji. Walk on the two mile long rampart walls and watch the breathtaking view of the vast open sea as it fires a volley of spray 30 ft. below & at times even 30 feet high as a professional guides explains to you all the features of the most well preserved Marathan Fort.

Afternoon.
Head towards Tarkarli by Luxury AC coach. A virgin beach at the confluence of river Karli and Arabian Sea with silver soft sands and pristine clear waters. The wide river, the beautiful sailboats, the tiny islands, the hamlets at the riverbank, all contributes to the picture-postcard beauty of Tarkarli. Enjoy a relaxed lunch of a mouth- watering 'Malvani' cuisine at the well-appointed MTDC beach resort complete with twenty 'Konkani' style cottages. Spend time at leisure and later enjoy backwater cruising in river Karli. Afternoon depart for Kudal Railway Station, on way visit to a Cashew Factory.

Day 03: Old Goa & Beaches (Friday)
Breakfast on board. Arrival at Karmali Railway Station at 7:30 hours.

Disembark for excursion to St. Augustine Church- once largest cathedral in Goa, Basilica of Bom Jesus - a 16th Century Church where the mortal remains of St. Francis Xavier are enshrined.

Se Cathedral and the Church of St. Francis of Assissi that began as a mosque but now is now an archaeological museum for Goan antiques. Walk through Fontanhas, the Latin quarters at Panjim and see centuries old Portuguese Style Houses.
Return to luxury train at Verna Railway Station for lunch in traditional Goan Cuisine and spend some time at leisure on train.

At 1600 hours depart for cultural night & dinner at beach side hotel. Return to train after dinner. Overnight halt at railway station.

Day 4: Goa – Offbeat (Saturday)
After breakfast on board, depart to visit Mangeshi, Temple of Lord Shiva, depicting typical ancient Hindu temple architecture.

At 1200 hours reach Safa Masjid at Ponda, built in 1560 by Ibrahim Adil Shah, the Sultan of Bijapur. From here proceed to one of the biggest and finest Spice Farm in the Country a "Sahakari Spice Farm" at Ponda village. Visitors are traditionally welcomed at the entrance. After brief halt in the restaurant for welcome drink and snacks, a guided tour of the farm starts. This organic spice farm has variety of herbal and medicinal trees that the guide elaborates on.Afterwards, typical Goan lunch is served here. Optional elephant ride is available at own cost.

At 1700 hours, journey progresses towards 16th Century Heritage house - Menezes Braganza House in Chandor Vilage. It is one of the last remaining structures that date back to the pre-Portuguese era in Goa consisting of architectural elements of an almost lost era.

Soon afterwards, return to your luxury train at Madgaon Railway Station, have dinner on board.

Train departs for Kohlapur.

Day 5: Kohlapur (Sunday)
After breakfast on the train, board the bus by 9:00 hours to visit New Palace, a royal palace partly converted into museum, the museum comprises of rare paintings and artefacts used by the royal family.

Then proceed to Bhawani Mandap, here antiques found during the excavations at Brahmagiri, old sculptures, filigree work in sandal wood and ivory, old coins and paintings of master artists of the region are all displayed.

Then move on to see an exquisitely carved Mahalaxmi Temple, a temple of goddess Ambabai visited by millions of pilgrims.

From temple proceed to Shalini Palace built of intricately carved black stone & Italian Marble stands on the west side of lake Rankala, Guests also have the opportunity to watch traditional Martial Art locally known as "Mardani Khel" at Palace and cultural programme.

Return to train for lunch and time at leisure.

Day 6: Ellora Caves & Aurangabad (Monday)
At 07:00 Hours Train arrives at Daulatabad Railway Station.

Ensuing breakfast, board bus for excursion to Daultabad Fort, standing commandingly at 600 ft. above the plains, served as headquarters for former Yadava rulers.

Then continue your excursion towards the Ellora Caves, a World Heritage Site with 34 excavated cave temples dedicated to Hinduism, Buddhism & Jainism.

At 12:30 hrs depart to Aurangabad for lunch.

After lunch move on to see, Bibi-ka-Maqbara, a replica of Taj Mahal and have free time for shopping.
Return to train by 1600 hrs.
Dinner on board.

Day 7: Ajanta Caves (Tuesday)
Arrive at Jalgaon Railway Station and after having early breakfast on board depart for excursion to the Ajanta Caves, another World Heritage Site. Witness some of the finest Buddhist paintings and sculptures dating back to the 2nd Century AD.

At noon board train at Jalgaon railway station.

Proceed to Nashik while having lunch on-board.

Leave Nashik Road railway station at 1700 hrs to board the bus for departure to Panchawati Ghat a holy place known for Kumbh Mela. Next, visit to Kala Ram Temple built in 1794. Evening board the train at Deolali railway station.

Farewell dinner on-board.

Day 8: Mumbai Return (Wednesday)
Enjoy breakfast on board as your journey comes back full circle to Chhatrapati Shivaji Rail Terminus, Mumbai by 7:30 am.

Cancellation Terms

  • The Deccan Odyssey train tour company management governs the cancellation rules policy & role/liability of Lawrence Travels & Tours Pvt. Ltd is restricted to that of booking agent only
  • All cancellation requests must be forwarded in writing
  • Minimum cancellation fee of 20% of total ticket value
  • If request made between 60 to 35 days before tour depart, minimum 50% of total ticket value will be charged as cancellation fee
  • If request made < 35 before tour depart, full 100% of total ticket value will be charged as cancellation fee
  • Failure to make payment as per booking policy, will result in advance amount being forfeited & booking cancelled
  • In case of No show, failure to join the train tour, refusal to continue with train journey -for whatsoever reasons, the tour amount is non refundable
  • Foreign nationals have to self ensure that their VISA Papers are in order, before boarding flight to India
  • Full refund will be made, in case train tour needs to be cancelled due to logistical or technical reasons, after deducting bank charges & credit card processing fees.
  • Disputes, if any, are subject to jurisdiction of courts of New Delhi(India) only
